Installing or Updating Device Drivers (Windows 10)

Incorrect, or out of date device drivers can be the cause of many COMPort Issues. In this instance it is a good idea to update the device drivers.

Please read this article thoroughly – if you are not confident in carrying out these steps seek assistance.

Locate the device manager, right click on the Microsoft logo at the bottom left hand corner of the screen and select Device Manager.

In the Device Manager window there should be a device under Other Devices with a yellow warning symbol to indicate a problem e.g. no driver installed, as shown below. The text next to this device will say “DLP-USB232M”.

Right click on the device to bring up the menu.
From the displayed menu select “Update Driver Software…”
This then displays the option for an automatic search or a manual search.

Insert the USB flash drive supplied with your AsyraPro to hand (note if this is more than 3 years old follow the steps below on downloading the updated files).
Select the second option to “Browse my computer for driver software” for the ‘Drivers’ folder for 32bit Windows 7 or ‘Drivers64’ folder for 64bit Windows 7 on the Asyra flash drive. If the location is incorrect click “browse” and locate the folder on your computer.

Once the folder is located click “NEXT” to start the installation.
When the installation has finished a completion screen is displayed.

Close this window and go back to the Device Manager Window.

The Device Manager will still show a device under Other Devices but in addition to this there is a new entry under Universal Serial Bus Controllers indicated in the screenshot above as the USB Serial Converter. This indicates the first part of the driver is installed. Installing the second part of the driver is almost a repeat of the last few steps.

Right click on the device to bring up the menu.
From the displayed menu select “Update Driver Software”.
This then displays the option for an automatic search or a manual search.

Once the file is located click “NEXT” to start the installation.
When the installation has finished a completion screen is displayed.

Note this screen also displays the COMPort assigned to the device (note; not all devices will install to COM3).
Close this window and go back to the Device Manager Window.

This time the Device Manager does not have a “DLP-USB232M” entry under Other Devices but does show entries under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and Ports (COM & LPT). The above screen shot displays a correct installation.

The device is now ready to use.

If your USB flash drive is more than 3 years old we advise downloading the latest driver files.

Go to http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Download the file named 2.14.16 or similar (this changes with each new version) Download the relevant file by clicking the blue download link under ‘Windows ‘x86 (32-bit)’ or ‘Windows ‘x64 (64-bit)’ depending on whether your version of Windows is 32 or 64 bit.

FTDI webpage

Locate this file (downloaded files normally appear in the “Downloads” folder), right click it and then click “Extract to CDM v2.12.14 WHQL Certified\”. Simply follow the instructions above and browse to this folder instead of the folder on the flash drive.
